Angie's Heart of Hope CIC — hands cradling a heart beneath a rising figure and a guiding star

No one should have to face mental-health challenges or life's most difficult moments alone. We work with individuals, families, volunteers and community partners to provide compassionate support, meaningful connections and access to appropriate services.

About Us

Who We Are

Angie's Heart of Hope CIC is a Community Interest Company, limited by guarantee, incorporated in England and Wales on 28 July 2026.

🔒
Statutory Asset Lock

Angie's Heart of Hope CIC is asset-locked by law — our funds and assets can only ever be used for our community purpose, never for private profit.

This is a statutory protection under the Community Interest Company Regulations 2005, not a voluntary policy. All of the CIC's assets — including grant funding, donations and any surplus — are permanently protected for community benefit and cannot be distributed to directors, members or shareholders. If the CIC is ever wound up, any remaining assets must be transferred to another asset-locked body, such as a charity or CIC, for continued community benefit.

Founded by Sarah Nalugwa, the organisation draws on her experience growing up in Uganda, where mental health is often misunderstood and many people face significant barriers to accessing support — and on her commitment to ensuring that, here in the UK, people feel heard, valued and supported.

Sarah's experience created a determination to help others feel seen, heard and supported. Angie's Heart of Hope CIC exists to turn that personal commitment into sustainable community action.

"No one should have to face mental-health challenges or life's most difficult moments alone."

Angie's Helping Hand was the original community outreach identity through which Sarah began sharing stories, supporting vulnerable people and raising awareness of hardship. Following incorporation, this work is now developed within Angie's Heart of Hope CIC — a formal, accountable and community-focused organisation.

Our Story

Born From Lived Experience

Sarah was born and raised in Uganda, where mental health is often misunderstood, and many people face significant barriers to accessing support. Growing up, she witnessed how poverty, stigma and limited access to mental-health services can have a profound impact on individuals, families and communities. Many people struggle in silence because they are unable to access the help they need, or fear being judged.

These experiences inspired a passion for improving mental-health awareness and supporting vulnerable people with compassion and dignity. Although Angie's Heart of Hope CIC is based in the UK, our mission is to promote mental wellbeing, reduce isolation and ensure that people feel heard, valued and supported. We believe that everyone deserves access to understanding, hope and quality mental-health support, regardless of their background or circumstances.

Sarah holds a degree in Biomedical Sciences and Human Biology. Inspired by a passion for improving mental-health outcomes and supporting vulnerable people, she chose to pursue a second career in mental-health nursing. Sarah is currently training as a Mental Health Practitioner, combining her scientific background with developing clinical knowledge to provide compassionate, evidence-based, person-centred care.

Before the CIC was incorporated, Sarah shared community-support stories through the Angie's Helping Hand social-media pages. These stories reflect the compassion and outreach that inspired the creation of Angie's Heart of Hope CIC.

Stories of Hope

Why Our Work Matters

Steven's Dream

Meet Steven, a ten-year-old boy with a dream of becoming a mechanic.

Steven has faced circumstances no child should have to experience. Without a stable home and struggling to find food, his daily life has been shaped by uncertainty and survival rather than the safety and education every child deserves.

Yet Steven has not abandoned his ambition. He continues to hope that one day he will learn the skills needed to become a mechanic.

His story reminds us that difficult circumstances should not be allowed to define a child's future. With compassion, responsible support, education and opportunity, dreams can be protected and lives can change.

Help us create pathways from hardship to hope.

A note on this story: because Steven is a child, we have shared only his first name and an illustrative image rather than a photograph. We do not publish children's locations, schools or identifying details, and we do not accept donations directed at an individual child outside our own accountable organisational processes.
